I. Managing Computer Systems - This course will introduce MCSE, desk top computer repairs, and Web management. Each student will be counted upon to learn and apply the minimum requirements in computer systems management. ( i.e. networking, E-mail, Internet browsers, etc.) Each student will be responsible for learning the inner workings of a desktop computer, and how to trouble shoot software and driver problems. Each student will be expected to learn the minimum requirements for maintaining the school website. Each student will be tested in a practical application in each of these areas, and graded on an individual basis due to the wide variety of individual skills and experience of class members. Your participation and full cooperation will help in making this a successful year for you and for La Quinta High School.

II. COURSE REQUIREMENTS

1. NOTEBOOK - This will be very critical to your success. Notes and procedures for working on the computers will be referred to at times. Every class member will be expected to keep this notebook updated the instructor will have access to it at any time. It will be a large portion of your grade. It should include but not be limited to all proxy settings, networking settings, procedures for accessing the school web pages and any passwords being used, and all information pertaining to your individual, or group project. This may be kept on a disk or in a folder. A hard copy should be kept in room 702 at all times for reference.

2. HOMEWORK - ALL materials assigned will be graded individually or on a group basis. Some out of class assignments will be given. They will be done at a pre-arranged time (Lunch, after school, or other).

3. FINAL TEST - There will be finals. They will consist of a project, or projects finished by the student or pair of students, and practical or written tests in the 3 major areas of this class. The final project will be presented in the spring.

4. EXTRA HOURS - Weekly hours will be tallied to 5. This will not be a problem Im sure for anyone who has spent any time at all on a computer. Class will begin at 7AM which means there will be out of class assignments that will need to be done during school hours to make up the time(computer repairs, projects).

III. EVALUATION PROCEDURES

1. PERCENTAGE OF SCORE - Homework & Tests 40%

Projects 40%

Prepared & Tardies 10%

Notebooks 10%

2. GRADING SCALE -90 - 100 A

80 - 89 B

70 - 79 C

60 - 69 D

00 - 59 F

IV. CLASSROOM PROCEDURES

1. ABSENCES - School policy will be followed. Your grade may be lowered 1 letter grade after three absences. After six absences you may be given an F.

2. TARDIES - Tardies will be recorded at the beginning of each class period. You are tardy if you are not signed in before the bell rings. At the beginning of each quarter, each student will receive 20 free "tardy" percentage points. These "tardy" points are extra credit and 10 will be lost on the first tardy. The remaining 10 will be lost on the second tardy. On the third detention will be given. On the fourth tardy school policy will be invoked. Also, parent contact will be made to discuss the problem.

3. LEAVING CLASS POLICY - At the discretion of the teacher a student is allowed to leave class 2 times a quarter at their request without penalty. However the same extra credit policy as tardies will be used, and once you have used your allocation, you will not be allowed to leave at your request.

4. Other procedures will be followed in the future, and will be discussed at that time.
